Multichain Poker and Gaming



Poker is a popular game that attracts millions of players worldwide. However, it is widely criticized for its shady track record and is therefore often associated with trust issues. This can be due to a lack of transparency and integrity of centralized platforms, as well as shady algorithmic strategies used in the game. Founded in 2016, Virtue Poker is a decentralized poker platform based on the Ethereum blockchain that aims to provide a safe, honest and fun gaming experience for players. Backed by Consensys, DFG Group, Digital Strategies, Fenbushi Capital, Flurry Capital, JRR, Pantera Capital and stakeholder Phil Ivey, it endeavors to bring blockchain-based betting to the mainstream globally with its recently acquired Malta Gaming License.

With its license from the Malta Gaming Authority, Virtue Poker became the first fully licensed blockchain-based gambling platform to launch in Europe. It has been incubated by ConsenSys and was among Coinlist's Seed Winter 2021 Batch, raising $5 million in a successful investment round in April.


The company recently completed its IDO on SuperStarter and launched publicly for real-money gameplay on May 28th. It uses its own tokens, called VPPs, as well as Etherium. In addition to a fully-licensed poker platform, Pocket Aces Club blog also offers a unique way of shuffling system that utilizes a computer’s CPU to shuffle cards in games with up to two players. This technology was designed to counter the common question, “Is it rigged?” by providing a way to verify that the shuffling process is in fact random.


Cartesi Compute

The verification framework for poker is based on Solidity smart contracts that are deployed to the blockchain and run on a set of Cartesi Compute Validator Nodes. These nodes are responsible for checking if a computation was performed correctly and informing the rest of the network if they do not agree with the result. The nodes are able to verify the results of these computations using a RISC-V Linux machine, known as a Cartesi Machine. Once the nodes confirm that they have correctly performed the computation, it is up to them to enforce its result in the blockchain. This is done through a complex process that includes an automatic replay of the game and a deterministic algorithm that ensures the correct result is enforced.


This verification framework is not only generic to all turn-based games, but it also allows for a fully transparent and scalable implementation of decentralized gaming. As such, it is capable of executing a complex game engine and providing the necessary verifications to any blockchain. Aside from that, it also provides an easy-to-use interface for both players and operators. For example, Medium platform shows users the current game state and provide statistics about each player’s activity, as well as their winnings.


It can even automatically detect anomalies and alert the players if it is detected. It also has the ability to send warnings to a player’s wallet. The game is completely peer-to-peer and a user’s deposit and withdrawal is facilitated through the Ethereum blockchain. The nodes also share the same public keys, eliminating the need for costly third-party payment processors. The nodes are also backed by a robust KYC and AML process that prevents money laundering and terrorism financing.
